Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 383 -- RECORDERS OF DEEDS

SPONSOR: Dolan (Schneider)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 16 to 0.

This bill removes the requirement that certain recorded documents
must be proven or acknowledged "according to law."

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill allows recorders to
verify instead of certify documents. A notary will often make a
mistake requiring a recorder to reject a document for recording.
The bill will correct that problem.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Dolan; and Recorders'
Association of Missouri.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
